Most house painters in Lexington are quoting you a finish that will start fading before your youngest finishes high school. Not because the crew is careless. Because standard exterior paint has a service life, and the Bluegrass sun is unusually good at shortening it.

We do something different. Our crews apply a spray-on ceramic coating built to hold color under UV rather than surrender to it, applied roughly eight to ten times thicker than paint, and we back it for 25 years with the warranty transferring to whoever buys the house after you. We are based on Midland Avenue, here in town, not routing your job from another state.

Exterior Painting In Lexington KY Built For The Bluegrass Climate

Lexington does not damage exteriors the way a coastal city does. It fades them.

The Bluegrass sits on open, rolling terrain, and open terrain means sun. There is far less dense tree canopy across most of this market than you find in an older river city, so south and west-facing walls take direct exposure for hours a day, most of the year. UV is not gentle about it.

Here is what actually happens to a paint film under sustained sun. UV breaks down the resin binder that holds the pigment together. As the binder degrades, loose pigment is left sitting on the surface, which is why a faded wall leaves white powder on your hand when you rub it. That powder is chalking, and it is the same failure as fading, just further along.

Then the temperature swings finish the job. Central Kentucky runs wide daily ranges in spring and fall, hot afternoons into cold nights. Every one of those cycles expands and contracts the substrate under a film that is already getting brittle from UV. Cracking follows, usually at the sunniest elevation first.

It is the reason house painters in Lexington KY see so much repeat work on the same streets. So the classic Lexington complaint is not peeling sheets. It is a house where three sides still look acceptable and the south wall looks ten years older than the rest of it. If that describes yours, here is more on fade resistant exterior paint and why standard products struggle with it.

Ceramic coating attacks that specific problem. It goes on roughly eight to ten times thicker than paint, carries a UV-stable pigment system built for color retention, and flexes through temperature cycling instead of getting brittle. Here is what ceramic coating is, if the concept is new.

One application, and the sunny side stops aging faster than the rest of the house.

Worth saying what it does not do. Coating is not a way to skip repairs. Cracked stucco, failed caulk joints, rotten trim, all of it gets handled during prep or the job does not go ahead. A thick finish over a bad substrate fails the same way a thin one does, only with a bigger invoice attached.

From New Builds To Horse Country: What We Coat

Lexington housing skews newer than the rest of our markets, and that changes the conversation completely.

Out in the growth corridors, most homes are twenty years old or less, built with fiber cement or stucco, and the boards are fine. The finish is not. Fiber cement is rated for decades and the factory color is not, so plenty of these houses are hitting their first repaint decision right about now. See painting Hardie board siding and exterior stucco painting for the detail on both.

Then there are the properties out past the ring road. Estate and farm homes across the Bluegrass carry large exteriors, long elevations, and a lot of wall area facing open land with nothing between it and the sun. These are bigger jobs with more staging and more coating, and they are where fade shows up most dramatically because there is simply nothing shading them.

Detached garages, outbuildings, and barns are a conversation we have at the estimate rather than a blanket yes, because scope on those varies a lot by structure and surface.

We also coat the rest of it: painting a brick house, companies that paint vinyl siding, painting wood siding on the older homes closer to downtown, and deck coating and staining, which takes the worst of the sun on any property.

And closer in, the older neighborhoods run to brick and painted frame that behave nothing like a twelve-year-old subdivision house. Same city, two completely different scopes, which is why we walk the property before we quote rather than pricing off square footage on the phone.

If your house is a mix of two or three materials, that is one estimate and one warranty, not several.

Lexington Areas We Serve

We work across Fayette County and the surrounding Bluegrass towns.

Beaumont is largely newer subdivision housing, fiber cement and stucco, with the wide open lot lines that leave big elevations exposed all afternoon.

Hamburg sits on the east side and grew fast, so most of the housing is a similar vintage. Those neighborhoods tend to hit their first repaint decision within a few years of each other, which is why we get clusters of calls off one street.

Chevy Chase is the older end of the market, closer in, with established trees and a mix of brick and painted frame that ages very differently from the new builds. Shade helps with fade and hurts with mildew, so those houses tend to fail on the damp side rather than the sunny one.

Beyond the city, Nicholasville and Georgetown are both regular runs for us, Versailles covers the western side toward the horse farms, and Richmond picks up the southeast. All four are part of the normal service area rather than an exception we make.

The pattern we notice across all of them is exposure rather than address. A house backing onto open ground on the Man o’ War side ages differently from an identical house with neighbors and trees on three sides, even a few miles apart. That is the first thing we look at when we walk a property.

If you are somewhere in the Bluegrass and not on this list, call and ask. We will tell you honestly whether you are inside the run.

Why Lexington Homeowners Choose Rhino Shield

Lexington’s sun does more damage than its winters. Most of the faded, chalky siding we see here is paint that simply gave up early.

Plenty of house painters in Lexington will quote you a good job at a fair price. The question worth asking is what happens in year six. Here is what we put behind our answer:

A 25-year transferable warranty.

Twenty-five years, and it moves to the next owner when you sell rather than expiring at closing.

A real Lexington address.

We are at 222 Midland Ave, in town. Our Kentucky profile is local, not a forwarding address in another state, and you can come find us.

Spray-applied, never rolled.

On stucco texture and fiber cement lap edges, a roller leaves thin spots, and thin spots are where fade and failure start. An airless sprayer holds even thickness across the whole elevation.

Licensed and insured, with everything in writing.

Scope, prep, product, and price on paper before a crew arrives.

Honest about our review count.

Our Lexington Google profile currently carries a 4.2 rating from 9 reviews. That is a small number and we are not going to dress it up. Our wider Ohio and Kentucky company profile sits at 4.9 across 51 reviews, and both are public. Judge us on the warranty and on what you see at the estimate, then leave your own review afterwards.

No pressure at the table.

You get a written estimate and time to think about it. If someone needs a signature that evening to hold a price, that is a sales tactic, not a quote.

The math over fifteen years:

Traditional repaint Rhino Shield ceramic coating
Expected service life Roughly 5 to 7 years, less on sun-exposed walls Applied once
Applications in 15 years Two, sometimes three One
Warranty Typically 1 to 3 years workmanship 25 years, transferable
Cost across 15 years Two to three full jobs, at future prices One job
Color retention Fades between cycles UV-stable system

Our Process For Lexington Homes

1

Your call.

Tell us what the house is doing. Fading, chalking, cracking, or just overdue.

2

Free on-site inspection.

We walk all four elevations, and we pay particular attention to the south and west sides, because on a Lexington house those two are usually a different age from the other two.

3

Written estimate.

Scope, prep, repairs, product, and price on paper. Nothing verbal, no pressure.

4

Prep and repairs.

Wash, full dry time, scraping back to sound material, board or stucco repair, caulking, and spot priming everywhere bare.

5

Spray application.

Two coats, airless spray, consistent film thickness across faces, edges, trim, and texture.

6

Cleanup and walkthrough.

Site cleared, property walked with you before anyone leaves.

7

Warranty registration.

Registered in your name at completion.

Most single-family exteriors run three to five days, with prep taking the larger share. The spraying itself is usually the shortest part of the week, which surprises people. Larger estate properties take longer, and we tell you that at the estimate rather than partway through.

You can use doors and windows normally on any day the crew is not actively working that elevation, and the property returns to normal use after the walkthrough.

Reviews From Kentucky Homeowners

Our Lexington profile is young. Nine reviews, 4.2 stars, and we would rather you know that up front than find it yourself and wonder why we did not mention it. Across the wider company we hold 4.9 stars from 51 reviews, and the themes are consistent in both places: thorough prep, straight answers, and a finish that holds.

The story we would rather be measured on is a warranty claim. One customer’s 2021 job developed peeling and some color variation inside about a year. We assessed it in person and fully recoated the home within five days, no argument. Anyone can print twenty-five years on a brochure. Year one is where you find out what it means.

We photograph our own finished work instead of buying stock images, so ask to see recent local projects when we come out. If we have coated something near you, we will show you the house rather than a brochure.

Lexington House Painting FAQs

What does it cost to paint a house in Lexington KY?

Most Lexington homes see professional exterior quotes in the range of roughly $4,500 to $12,000, depending on size, material, story count, and prep needs. Larger properties out toward the farms run higher simply because there is more wall. Our inspection and written estimate are free, and the number on the page is the number.

How is ceramic coating different from regular house painting?

Ceramic coating is applied roughly eight to ten times thicker than standard exterior paint, uses a UV-stable pigment system for color retention, and flexes with temperature change instead of getting brittle. Standard paint is a thin film with a five to seven year life. Coating is a one-time application with a 25-year transferable warranty.

Why does exterior paint fade so fast in Lexington?

Because there is very little shade and a lot of direct sun. UV breaks down the resin binder holding the pigment together, and once that binder degrades the loose pigment shows as fading and then chalking. Wide daily temperature swings then crack the weakened film, usually on the south and west walls first.

Do you work on newer Hardie board and stucco homes?

Yes, and they are a large share of our Lexington work. On fiber cement the board outlasts the factory finish by decades, and on stucco the issue is hairline cracking and moisture rather than the wall itself. Both are covered in detail on our Hardie board and stucco pages.

Do you serve Georgetown, Nicholasville and surrounding towns?

Yes. Georgetown, Nicholasville, Versailles, and Richmond are all inside our regular Bluegrass service area, along with the rest of Fayette County. Same crews, same system, same warranty as a job inside the city.

Are you licensed and insured in Kentucky?

Yes. We carry insurance on every job and work under the licensing required for exterior coating work in Kentucky, with current certificates available on request before work begins. Ask any contractor for theirs before you sign anything.

Is the 25-year warranty transferable when I sell?

Yes. It passes to the next owner rather than ending at closing, which is a genuine selling point worth putting in a listing. We register it in your name at completion and the transfer is straightforward when the house changes hands.

Gary B.

I have Hardie board lap siding. It get nicked here and there installing it, so I wanted a good paint on it to protect it. Rhino Shield fit the bill perfectly! All joint caulked, primed everything and finished coat. It looks incredible! Very happy with the result!

Barb K.

Mack and his partner could not have been better! They over exceeded our expectations. Their work was seamless. They worked 5 solid days in a row without ever taking a break. Timely, thorough and polite at all times. It was the best experience we have EVER had and we have had 4 previous homes painted. I can attest to the workers and will be able to attest to the product after it cures. I would HIGHLY refer Rhino Shield to anyone wanting a home painted.

Steve S.

The Rhinoshield team did a fantastic job on our cedar siding house. The team was done in three days and the color turned out amazing. Everyone on the team was very professional and we are highly satisfied with the clean, professional paint job. The only thing that could be improved was the process of picking out a color which we had some confusion about, since we thought we were having to pay a custom color fee which ended up not being the case. I would highly recommend Rhinoshield for the great work they did. The pics speak for themselves!

David G.

I would highly recommend Rhinoshield. Our home was originally painted in June 2021. During the next year we noticed several areas of peeling paint and color variations. We contacted David & he came out to assess our problem. Our home was completely repainted within 5 days. We are extremely satisfied with how they took care of the situation. Their customer service is over the top and they definitely stand by their word.
